Onyfix Treatment for Ingrown Nails
What is Onyfix?
The Onyfix nail correction system is a revolutionary, non-invasive treatment for ingrown and curved toenails, particularly chronic or recurrent cases. It can be used in children, adults, people with diabetes, or anyone looking for an alternative solution.
Are you suffering from an ingrown toenail and want a pain-free, non-surgical solution? Try Onyfix Nail Correction System for a natural fix.
A thin band of material is applied directly on top of the nail to reshape it and promote natural growth. This will help restore the natural shape of the nail. The process is entirely painless, and the treatment can offer immediate relief from the pain of the ingrown nail.
At Restore Podiatry & Laser Center, our podiatrist will create an individualized system tailored to your needs and help you achieve healthy nails.

How Does Onyfix Work?
Onyfix is a special composite material applied to the toenails and cured with an LED light. It acts as a brace, redirecting the nail as it grows, and keeping it healthy. This helps stop ingrown toenails from forming by reshaping the pathway for new nail growth.
The Onyfix system needs to be cured onto your toenail for about two or three months so when the nail grows, it does so in the correct position. During this time, extra bands can be added every 6 weeks for best results. Once finished, the composite can be removed and your nail will continue growing naturally.
What Conditions Can Onyfix Treat?
Onyfix is typically used for the treatment of ingrown toenails, deformed nails, and cracked toenails.
Ingrown toenails occur when the nail grows into the skin. Onyfix is commonly used for repeated problems with ingrown toenails. Toenails may become involuted, or curved rather than flat, which can lead to them becoming ingrown. Misshapen nails are those that grow in the wrong direction, or in an abnormal shape such as a V-shape.
Onyfix is a great choice for treating ingrown toenails on people with diabetes, to avoid the need for more invasive treatments such as surgery. It’s also ideal for patients who cannot have surgery, fear needles, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or have poor circulation.
When Can Onyfix Not Be Used?
There are a few situations in which Onyfix is not the right treatment option:
- If your toenail is infected, Onyfix cannot be applied until the infection has been treated.
- For fungal infections affecting more than 50% of the toenail, Dr. Bhela must treat it before Onyfix can be applied.
- Onyfix cannot be used for nail bruising or cancerous nail disorders, and will not work if the toenail is detached from the nail bed.
Advantages of Onyfix
Onyfix offers several advantages over other treatment options. Here are some of the benefits of Onyfix:
- Onyfix is a non-invasive, painless treatment that is a great alternative to toenail surgery. It provides quick relief from the pain of an ingrown toenail and is an effective treatment option for severe or recurrent cases.
- It is safe and classified as a Class 1 Medical Device.Â
- It focuses on correcting the natural growth of the toenail, without using force.
- It is suitable for those with diabetes, pregnant women, children, and people who can’t have surgery or anesthetic.
- It does not cause any skin irritation as it is hypoallergenic.
- You can get right back to your activities after the treatment, with some precautions. You can even put on nail polish the next day.
What To Know About Your Onyfix Appointment
Your Onyfix treatment will be applied in a same-day appointment and takes around 10-20 minutes.Â
Please remove artificial nails, shellac, and nail polish before attending your appointment.
During Your Onyfix Appointment
Before applying Onyfix, our team will file and smooth the toenail, to make it thin and even. They clean the nail folds and wipe the nail plate with a cotton swab. Next, they apply primer across the nail plate and cure it with an LED light. Then, they will place bands on the base and top of the nail, while lifting it up using a probe. Finally, they will use an LED light to cure the entire system for thirty seconds.
Dr. Bhela will monitor your Onyfix band for 2-3 months, though sometimes the treatment can be extended. During this period, you will have follow-up appointments to evaluate your nail growth and possibly add more bands. The treatment is usually finished in 2-5 months when the Onyfix is removed and the nail should grow naturally afterward.
Aftercare for Onyfix Treatment
To get the best results, follow these steps after using Onyfix:Â
- Do not swim, bathe, or wet your feet for 24 hours.Â
- Do not use acrylic or shellac toenails (regular polish is fine after 24 hours).Â
- Wear shoes that fit well, and avoid pressure or trauma near the area, to keep the band intact.
- Do not trim the toenail at home. Our foot care team will handle trimming at your appointments.
If these steps are not followed, the Onyfix treatment may not work.
