Idiopathic Neuropathy: Causes Symptoms And Treatment Options

What is Idiopathic Neuropathy?

Idiopathic neuropathy is a type of peripheral neuropathy where no identifiable underlying cause can be found. This type of numbness affects the peripheral nervous system, which includes all nerves outside of the brain and spinal cord, leading to a variety of symptoms, especially in the extremities, like foot numbness.

In idiopathic neuropathy, the nerves are damaged or malfunctioning. As a result, the nerve is unable to effectively send signals between the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord) and the rest of the body.

Symptoms of Idiopathic Neuropathy

People who suffer from Idiopathic neuropathy experience numbness, tingling, or a “pins and needles” sensation. Many complain about burning or shooting pain, which can be mild or severe in some cases.

The affected areas might also become overly sensitive to touch, causing even light contact to feel painful, a condition known as allodynia. In some cases, muscle weakness and lack of coordination can lead to balance problems with more chances of tripping.

Possible Causes of Idiopathic Neuropathy?

Age

Idiopathic neuropathy is more common in older adults.

Genetics

People with a family history of Idiopathic Neuropathy are more prone to this condition.

Lifestyle

Smoking, poor diet, lack of exercise, and alcohol use can contribute to nerve health issues.

Exposure to Toxins

Getting in contact with some environmental chemicals and toxins might lead to nerve damage in some cases.

Immunologic or Inflammatory Factors

An undetected immune or inflammatory response can also contribute to nerve damage.

Treatment Options at Restore Podiatry

Class 4 Laser Therapy

Class 4 laser therapy has an output of over 500 milliwatts (mW). This laser therapy can penetrate deeper into tissue than many other lower-powered laser therapies. This ability makes it beneficial for chronic neuropathy and injuries, which reside deep down into the tissue.

Class 4 laser therapy increases the blood flow, effectively reduces swelling and pain, and accelerates tissue healing.

Deep Tissue Laser Therapy

Deep tissue laser therapy uses specific wavelengths that reach deep tissues to help with cellular repair and regeneration. The energy source penetrates deeply into muscle and connective tissue, targeting the root of pain and inflammation in deeper structures.

This therapy enhances the oxygenation in the affected area and reduces chronic neuropathy pain. It is one of the better non-invasive treatment options for nerve damage and injuries causing foot numbness.

High-Power Laser Therapy (HPLT)

High-power laser therapy uses high doses of light energy that penetrates deeply into affected nerve pathways. For idiopathic neuropathy patients with severe pain, HPLT offers fast relief by modulating nerve sensitivity and decreasing inflammation. This can be particularly helpful for individuals experiencing intense burning or shooting pain.

High-power laser therapy helps with quick pain relief and reduces swelling. It also helps with cellular repair and regeneration, aiding the management of chronic neuropathy and improving quality of life for a long-term solution.

High-Intensity Laser Therapy (HILT)

High-intensity laser therapy (HILT) uses short bursts of high-energy laser light to target deep tissues, offering fast relief for acute and chronic neuropathy pain. The laser pulses penetrate deep into tissues, reducing pain by desensitizing nerve fibers and decreasing inflammation at the cellular level.

HILT is highly effective for rapid pain relief and reducing inflammation in severe or deep-seated conditions.
