Foot Numbness: Treatment options

Foot Numbness: Symptoms, Causes and Treatment Options

What is Foot Numbness?

Foot numbness can be a result of various underlying conditions.

Peripheral Neuropathy, which is quite common, is often associated with diabetes or nerve damage. Sometimes this numbness can be a result of nerve compression. It can be either because of herniated discs or may be a pinched nerve in the lower back.

Conditions like bunions or flat feet also can result in putting extra pressure on the nerves. Poor circulation, which are resulted from peripheral artery disease may restirct blood flow to the foot causing numbness.

Injuries and repetitive stress, which can damage the nerve, might end up causing numbness in the feet.

Symptoms of Foot Numbness or Neuropathy

With foot numbness, one can start to feel a tingling sensation or ‘pins and needles’ kind of sensation in the feet. You might also experience loss of feeling and sensitivity in the affected foot.

Individuals with numbness have difficulty balancing and walking, which stems from loss of feeling in the feet. Some even complain about pain, weakness, and burning sensation in the feet.
